The course of the match

AC Milan start convincingly. In the sixth minute, Theo Hernandez continued the rebound from Brahim Diaz’s shot with a shot that nestled into the Fiorentina goal. However, the linesman had raised the offside flag because of the position of Junior Messias.

Four minutes later, Fiorentina almost opened the scoring. Biraghi’s corner met Igor who was standing free on the edge of the box. Igor volleyed into goal so Mike Maignan had to stretch his body, the ball still narrowly wide.

Milan counterattack. In the 12th minute, Rafael Leao burst into the Fiorentina penalty box before sending a low pass to Diaz. The last named player crossed for Hernandez although his finish from a tight angle only hit the outside of the net.

Another opportunity was created by Milan five minutes later. Franck Kessie’s header at Olivier Giroud, but his shot just wide.

Furthermore, the match went to a stalemate so the score remained 0-0 until the end of the first half.

After lunch, Fiorentina dominated possession which forced Milan to defend.

In the 70th minute, Fiorentina showed an impressive defense to thwart a potential Milan goal. Sandro Tonali sent a cross which was continued by Rebic with a kick from the middle of the penalty box. Goalkeeper Pietro Terraciano was misled, but there was still Arthur Cabral who cleared the ball in front of the Fiorentina goal line.

Six minutes later, Maignan made a brilliant save. Biraghi’s cross to Arthur Cabral at the near post was met with a powerful header into the top corner. Mainnan jumps to deflect before catching the ball.

The deadlock was finally broken. In the 82nd minute, Milan led Fiorentina 1-0 thanks to Rafael Leao.

It started with Terraciano’s error due to a bad goal kick. Leao controlled the ball, stabbed into the box and then fired a precise right-footed shot that went through Biraghi’s legs before breaking into the net.
