Rossella Brescia: A Multifaceted Entertainer Having Fun at 52

From 7 to 10 in the morning Rossella Brescia – from Monday to Friday, on Radio Dimensione Suono – she often transforms into Sister Iguana of the Consolers of Cuba and makes captivating telephone pranks – the program is Everybody’s crazy about Rds – sometimes she becomes a hilarious Sophia Loren who doesn’t look at anyone , and still others in the clumsy Chinese masseuse Ciu-Lin. At almost 52 years old – she turns them on August 20th – she is having fun. Also because in January you will be on tour with the Sistine musical Billy Elliot, already staged in Rome in April. And in her Martina Franca di lei (Taranto) she continues the activity of the dance school that she opened more than ten years ago.

happy?
“Very. I’m also taking away a whim ».

Which?
“I’m taking singing lessons. I don’t want to make records, please, but improve with musicals. In September we start again with the tests ».

Singing singing in Sanremo, perhaps as co-host, do you ever think about it?
«I’ve done it in the past, today I’ve put a stone on it. For certain appointments I leave at a disadvantage ».

What do you mean?
«My private life is not interesting from the media, I’m not like Chiara Ferragni who lives in public and attracts a lot of attention to herself. I’m normal and calm.”

Impersonations, characters, jokes: on the radio he does everything and in a very effective and fun way. She’s always been like this, but she didn’t show it, or did she find out on the run?
«In the past I have often given the idea of being stiff and not nice because of the cliché about cold and highly disciplined ballet dancers, but in reality this is my nature. I face life with a smile.”

Aside from Sister Iguana’s character, is it true that she really wanted to take her vows?
“Yes, as a little girl. Everyone worked at my house, so my parents also left me for days with a very religious great-aunt, who went to mass every day. And I with her. Even today I know by heart sacred readings, praises, songs. So for a while I really thought about becoming a nun. Then, as I got older, I obviously changed my mind. However, I do have a cousin priest: Don Martino. Excellent. The strange thing is that Luciano, my companion, is a Protestant: who knows what the great-aunt would have said…».

Do you always believe?
“Yes, certainly. Even if now, as a divorcee, I haven’t confessed for years».

Would there be much to say?
«Eeeeeeeehhh… (laughs). The right. Nothing special”.

Is it true that at 19, after winning the local selections, she participated in Miss Italy in Salsomaggiore and they treated her so badly that she withdrew?
“Yes. I introduced myself because I was fascinated by the entertainment world. Except that when I got there with my beautiful sash, one of the jurors more than once said to me: “But how did you manage to win? You are awful. Where do you want to go?”. He bullied me. I was so upset that I left.”

What do you think of the new Miss Italy rules? Patrizia Mirigliani said she didn’t want women in the competition who weren’t born as such.
«Meh! I don’t know… These are delicate topics. Society is changing. I don’t know what to say, honestly.”

By the way, if a man wakes up tomorrow morning, what is the first thing he does?
«Oh God… I’m already a bit of a tomboy. Just think that instinctively I almost always ask for the bill at the restaurant».

So what does it do?
“I throw away my heels right away. What pain in the feet…».

Is it true that yours drive fetishists crazy on the web?
“Yes. She has no idea how many there are. To be honest, I don’t understand these things. They leave me perplexed. People are too strange…”

Why did she say after posing nude for Max’s 2004 calendar that the shoot was “a real tragedy”?
“You will exaggerate. I actually accepted because as a dancer I wanted to meet Alessandra Ferri, my myth, the one who, when I saw her dancing on TV with Baryshnikov, immediately made me understand that I wanted to do that in her life. She was the wife of Fabrizio Ferri, the photographer, and therefore…».

How did it go?
«We shot in Pantelleria and he, very good, rightly tried to always push me a little further, more and more naked. I was struggling, perhaps because I had in mind the calendars of the workshops or of the truck drivers».

There are those who, after making a calendar, bought a house: you?
«No home, but I certainly earned a lot of money. At the time, the market for those products was rich. However, I have pleasant memories of those days: beautiful photos, a magical atmosphere on the set, and also that of the sun and the sea».

She dances, acts, leads, does imitations and much more: could it have been better?
«But nooo… it went as it should be. I’m not complaining. I’ve done many things, even very different from each other, perhaps too much because I’ve certainly confused someone, but that’s okay».

The mistake that burns you the most?
“It’s a super mistake, almost madness: having rejected the role of Malèna in 1999 (later released in 2000, ed), the film by Giuseppe Tornatore who then played Monica Bellucci”.

And why didn’t he accept?
“For love. I was 27 years old and had a very jealous boyfriend who didn’t accept seeing me in a film like this. He didn’t want me to shoot certain scenes. And I agreed with him.”

And how did you tell Tornatore?
«Directly I did not do it, but my agent. For many years I was ashamed and only a few months ago I found the courage to call him to apologize. He was very kind and ended up laughing. Sometimes I think about it, though: I said no to an Oscar-winning director for a film that had worldwide success…”.

Did you ever talk about it with your substitute, Monica Bellucci?
“Yes. She ended up laughing.’

Has this happened to you other times?
«Another, in 2000. For I love Andrea by Francesco Nuti, always for the same reason (her boyfriend, whom she later married in 2000 and from whom she separated in 2004, is the television director Roberto Cenci, ed)».

A curiosity: in 2008 on Canale 5 with Nina Moric and Aida Yespica he formed the leading lady trio of “A cage of madmen” by Bagaglino: what did you have in common?
“Nothing. Zero”.

What came out best for you?
«Absolutely I believe Carmen di Luciano (Cannito, his partner, ed)».

His partner, the choreographer and director Luciano Cannito, was nominated in May by the Minister of Culture Sangiuliano president of the Mercadante theater in Naples: will you do something together?
«Not for now, but we met while working, at the Massimo in Palermo for Carmen, we’ve done many things together, and if there’s a good project to carry on, we’ll certainly do it. We are both professionals.”

To whom do you owe the most gratitude?
«Apart from mine, perhaps to Maria De Filippi. Participating in Amici was a real turning point for me. I learned to know more about TV».

Do you feel politically represented?
«Let’s say that I am very pleased that the premier is a woman like Giorgia Meloni. I know her well, she’s been a friend for years.’

Did you vote for it?
“The vote is secret.”
