If people have an alternative to spend 3-4 months somewhere else, it would help the energy system, he said. Due to the Russian attack, only about half of the energy supply system is currently functioning, millions of people have to live in darkness and cold. Both planned and unplanned city blackouts have become commonplace in many regions of Ukraine.

The company headed by Timchenko supplies about a quarter of Ukraine with electricity. He explains: with each Russian attack, the system becomes less stable and reducing electricity consumption is one of the most important factors in keeping it running.

Earlier, the Ukrainian government called on people to limit the use of household appliances, including electric heaters or washing machines.

Thus, even going to live elsewhere for a while can help Ukraine win the war, Timchenko explained, adding that by consuming less, the hospitals where wounded soldiers are treated will have a guaranteed supply.
