The Allsvenskan will have a richer profile when John Guidetti joins AIK. The striker has passed 30, comes from a time on the bench in Europe and has never had a longer continuous time as a starting player in the national team. Markus Rosenberg was in a similar situation when he returned to Malmö FF before the 2014 season and the comparison between the two has been made from several quarters since AIK presented the news.
So, what does Markus Rosenberg think of the comparison? Does he think that John Guidetti can do for AIK what he himself did for Malmö FF, that is, push the team to the Swedish Championship gold and Champions League?
When SportExpressen did a longer interview with the MFF icon in the spring, after the recruitment was completed, Rosenberg toned down expectations of Guidetti.
– It is unfair to make that comparison. Malmö was a much better team then than AIK is now, he says.
How successful do you think the recruitment will be?
– I do not know. We’ll see how it goes and if they need to change their way of playing. Guidetti may not be the striker you just send a lot of long balls to, he would rather have more football played? It is good for the Allsvenskan that someone comes home who is seen and heard, but it is difficult to assess his quality, you have hardly seen him play since he was in Feyenoord.
May have benefited from rest
Markus Rosenberg understands that the comparison is made, it is in some ways logical. Guidetti could also have one of the advantages that Rosenberg had.
– When I got home I had not played that much in West Brom and therefore I think the body managed a few extra years. It’s the same for John, if you want to find something positive not to have played for a long time. In general, I think it’s good when players come home to the Allsvenskan before they are finished, that it can come home and make a difference for many years.
