Rosatom is ready to take risks for the safety of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant

Rosatom plans to create an additional backup power source for the Zaporizhzhya NPP, so as not to depend on the Ukrainian side and diesel generators. However, the work could be accompanied by shelling, the company warned.

“Given the great importance of the energy supply reserve for the nuclear safety of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, especially in winter, we decided, despite the direct threat to the lives of the personnel employed in these works, to proceed with the restoration of the open framework area of the Zaporizhzhya TPP”, – reports in the “Rosatom” Telegram channel.

The state company explained that attempts have already been made to restore the electricity supply from the thermal power plant, but each time the response from the Ukrainian side was the targeted bombing of the thermal power plant in Zaporozhye.

The thermal power station is located in Energodar itself.

“Currently, electricity is supplied to the Zaporozhye NPP through two high-voltage lines from the Ukrainian side, which, as the events of recent weeks show, are regularly and usually simultaneously cut off. The closure of these lines has repeatedly led to the transfer of energy supply to the Zaporizhzhya NPP to emergency diesel generators, the life of which is determined by fuel reserves,” – described the current situation in Rosatom.

Recall that after numerous shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Zaporozhye NPP stopped supplying electricity to the grid, but it itself needs electricity to maintain a safe regime.
