/ world today news/ The Russian “Rosatom” expects the arbitration court to rule on the claim of “Atomstroyexport” against the guarantor of the construction of the Bulgarian NPP “Belene” NEC this summer. This was said on Tuesday (May 17) by an Interfax source quoted by VestiFinance.ru.
“The decision on Belene will probably come this summer,” revealed the source, specifying that there are no procedural deadlines in the case.
In 2013, “Atomstroyexport” filed a claim with the International Court of Arbitration in Paris against the Bulgarian NEC regarding the “Belene” NPP project.
The agreement for the construction of the Bulgarian plant was signed with Rosatom back in 2006, but the final construction contract was never initialed. The project envisaged the construction of a nuclear power plant with two units with a total capacity of over 2,000 megawatts.
In March 2013, Bulgaria decided to abandon the Belene NPP, and Russia said that Russian enterprises had already produced the first complex of equipment for the plant and one reactor had been assembled.
Rosatom filed a $1 billion lawsuit against NEC. Bulgaria intended to dispute the claim with the claim that within the validity period of the agreement, the country did not sign contracts for the production of reactors for the units of the plant.
The chances of the Russian side winning in court are high, since the bulk of the claims are for equipment that has already been ordered. The main question is what will be the amount of compensation that will be awarded, the source noted.
