/ world today news/ The state corporation “Rosatom” is ready to discuss with NEK the possibilities of implementing the decision of the arbitration court in Geneva on the project for the “Belene” nuclear power plant, terminated by the Bulgarian side, but only in the context of the need to soon repay the debt from Bulgaria, says the message of “Rosatom”, transmitted on Friday (July 29) RIA “Novosti”.
Previously, the Arbitration Court of the International Chamber of Commerce in Geneva issued a decision according to which NEK must pay the Russian “Atomstroyexport” damages from the termination of the construction of the Belene NPP in the amount of 620 million euros. In addition, a penalty of 167 thousand euros is charged daily until the entire amount is fully repaid.
The issues regarding the implementation of the court’s decision were discussed on Friday in Moscow at a meeting between the first deputy general director – the director of the block of development and international business of “Rosatom” Kiril Komarov with the Minister of Energy of Bulgaria Temenuzhka Petkova.
The Russian side has noted that it confirms its commitment to the strict implementation of the decision of the Arbitration Court.
“Rosatom” is open to discussing with the Bulgarian partners the possible options for solving the situation, which meet the interests of both parties, but only in the context of the need for the soon repayment of the debt from the Bulgarian side”, noted Komarov, whose words are quoted in the message.
At the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation, including the implementation of the project to extend the operating periods of the 5th and 6th units of the Bulgarian Kozloduy NPP, as well as the implementation of the decision of the Arbitration Court of the International Chamber of Commerce in Geneva regarding the Belene NPP project.
The parties have noted that they are fully satisfied with the implementation of the project to extend the operating periods of the 5th and 6th units of the Kozloduy NPP with the participation of the Russian Rusatom-Service. At the meeting, it was emphasized that the Russian side fulfills all its obligations under the contract.
