Jaaukanigás Roses is a support group for women who have had or are suffering from breast cancer. Together they accompany and support each other in the process.
Sonia Motta y Valeria Romanuttiboth members of the group, were visiting ReconquistaHOY announcing that, with the support of the Sports Secretariat of the Municipality of Reconquista, every Saturday they share swimming classes at Club Atlético Adelante.
Rosas del Jaaukanigás was born in 2019 and her initial activity was rowing, a sport that motivated the formation of the group, considering that the rhythmic and cyclical movements of rowing help lymphatic drainage and favor the prevention of lymphedema. Likewise, rowing allows you to strengthen the muscles of the affected area, thus minimizing pain and rehabilitating mobility that is reduced after a breast operation.
During the walk, the women enjoy nature and the landscape of the river, but they commented that some are afraid of water and, therefore, the idea of swimming classes arose, which are taught every Saturday. There are three teachers in charge and two groups; one begins from 10 to 11 hours; and other from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.. The activity will continue throughout the year with the possibility of carrying it out in the heated pool.
Those women who wish to participate can contact Sonia at 3482 302297 or with Professor Patricia Fabrissin at 3482 557410.
On the other hand, they anticipated that they are organizing to participate in the rowing day of the National Pink Gathering which will be held on October 8 and 9 of this year in Misiones. Those interested, contact Sonia’s number.
their testimonials
Valeria and Sonia not only told us about Rosas del Jaaukanigás, but also told us about their life, how it has changed after the cancer diagnosis and how they live it today.
Sonia currently works in Web Positioning. She used to be an administrative employee in an auto parts business in Avellaneda when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016. From one day to the next she had bruises on her left breast.
At the time, she was diagnosed in the city of Rosario with a very aggressive tumor and, once the long treatment began, she had to stop working. In addition, she later found out that she had a genetic mutation that could return the tumor. “What I thought at that moment was to thank for all the years that I was healthy. I think that helps me to overcome and heal”Sonia said in this regard.
I always say that there are two ways to deal with a diagnosis, either you become a victim or the heroine of your story.
“Logically I have other limitations that I didn’t have, some sequels left me, but with what I am and the resources that I have today physically, I try to optimize it”he added.
On the other hand, there is Valeria, the Physical Education teacher who is going through her second treatment and is on leave. She was diagnosed with cancer in February 2019.
At first she had detected it herself by feeling her breast and, when doing the annual check-up before starting classes, she confirmed it. As a result of this she had to leave her job. After finishing the first treatment, she was able to rejoin during the pandemic and then return to face-to-face treatment, but in the midst of other controls, it turned out that she had to get a license again and start a second treatment.
Valeria usually takes the situation with humor and even makes jokes. “I was always like this and I continue to be like this because I think that’s how we should live. I always steal a phrase from Sonia that says that ‘the disease does not have to define us’“she said in this regard.
In addition, he commented that one learns a lot from the disease. She, for example, said that she learned to “down a few gears” and no longer worrying about issues that are not worth it and that are not going to be solved. These are issues that he tries to convey in the group, as well as the importance of playing sports, he explained.
Although Valeria got cancer at an age where she usually works a lot, she said that “Sometimes, in that production and doing a lot, we lose ourselves in enjoying simple things, simple things that do a lot of good. Out there, one leaves them in the background. That’s what I realized.”
