Rosario Murillo demands “compensation from capitalism in the form of a vaccine” complains of sanctions

Managua, Aug 24 (EFE) .- The vice president of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, demanded this Tuesday “from capitalism compensation in the form of a vaccine” against covid-19 for “all the wealth” that, she said, they have “snatched” nations like the Nicaraguan.

“The countries that have been impoverished by that same greed have the right to demand (a) compensation in the form of a vaccine (…) for all the wealth that they have taken from us from the countries that capitalism, savage capitalism, has impoverished ( …) to protect us from an evil that afflicts the whole world, “said Murillo, wife of President Daniel Ortega, through official media.

The first lady did not mention the recipients of her claims, nor the amounts of wealth that they have allegedly taken from countries like Nicaragua.

Murillo indicated that the “world that calls for solidarity cooperation to all, the issue of vaccines, so much that has been addressed, so much that it is said, so much that it is about doing, but the greed of savage capitalism closes so many doors.”

According to data released by the Government of Nicaragua, to date the country, with a population of 6.5 million inhabitants, has guaranteed more than 1.4 million doses of vaccines against covid-19.

Some 430,000 doses have been donated by the Covax mechanism of the World Health Organization (WHO), 431,620 by a contribution from Spain, at least 300,000 by Russia, and 335,000 by India.

Nicaragua received 353.5 million dollars from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Monday to face the economic impact generated by the covid-19 pandemic and to strengthen its international reserves, according to the Central Bank.

Nicaragua has accumulated 10,970 infections and 199 deaths from covid-19 since March 2020, according to the Ministry of Health.

Official data contrasts with those of the independent Covid-19 Citizen Observatory, a network of doctors and volunteers that monitors the pandemic, which reports 3,905 deaths from pneumonia and other symptoms related to Covid-19, as well as 21,290 suspected cases. contagion, data that are not recognized by the authorities.
