Rosario Central and Fortaleza drew 1-1 in the first leg of the round of 16 of the 2024 Copa Sudamericana at the Gigante de Arroyito Stadium. There was no further excitement from either side in the second half, and there was no time for more and the tie was achieved, a result that leaves the series open for the return match, this coming Wednesday, August 21 at the Arena Castelão, where one of the two will punch its ticket to the quarter-finals and the other will be left behind. Whoever wins the match will advance to the next phase and in the event of a tie (whatever the score in that result), the story will be decided in a penalty shoot-out without extra time.

Canalla had to play the qualifying round after finishing third in Group G of the Copa Libertadores.
