At the Rosa-Parks high school in Thionville, as part of the Month Without Tobacco, students of the BTS services and services from the health and social sectors, in partnership with the Heart and Health club of Thionville, proposed actions to promote tobacco. stop smoking.
With nearly a quarter of French adolescents smoking daily, France is very affected by the problem of youth smoking. On the occasion of No Tobacco Month, at the Rosa Parks high school in Thionville, students of the BTS services and services in the health and social sectors, supervised by their teacher Céline Saunier, took up the problem, aware that it is essential to prevent exposure to and use of tobacco as early as possible. They therefore set up, among other actions, a poster campaign, a survey, events and the distribution of kits to encourage people to stop smoking.
Thirty days to quit
Supported by the Heart and Health club of Thionville, the students also held a prevention stand in the hall, the objective of which was to encourage smokers to engage in an attempt to quit, because a smoker has five times more chance of stopping permanently after thirty days of stopping.
A support
Martine Schoenstein, president of the association, Irma Madis, volunteer and Martine Damiani, cardiologist-tobacco specialist, welcomed the initiative. They answered questions from students and staff of the establishment. They directed smokers to professionals who can support them. The students lacked neither conviction nor arguments to highlight the daily benefits linked to quitting smoking, in terms of financial savings and health.
Soon green zones?
Throughout the year, the BTS SP3S class will continue its awareness-raising activities within the high school. The students particularly wish to define green zones around the establishment, in partnership with the City of Thionville and the Portes de France urban community.
