ROOSENDAAL/PARIS – Chelsey Heijnen failed to win an Olympic medal in the 60-kilogram class on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Roosendaal boxer lost in the quarterfinals to Brazilian Beatriz Ferreira, who won silver at the Olympic Games four years ago.

Heijnen entered the ring as an underdog against the experienced Ferreira. Despite her fighting spirit and previous impressive performances, she had to give up all three rounds to the Brazilian. A victory would have earned her a medal, since losers in the semi-finals both receive bronze. Unfortunately, that was not in the cards for the Dutch.

Promising debut

Chelsey Heijnen made her Olympic debut with a strong start. She secured a spot in the quarterfinals by beating North Korean Won Ungyong in the first round. Although her Olympic adventure ended prematurely, Heijnen has shown that she is a promising talent for the future.

End of Dutch participation in Olympic boxing

With the elimination of Heijnen, the Dutch participation in the Olympic boxing tournament comes to an end. She was the only Dutch boxer who had qualified for the Games in Paris. Despite the disappointment, her experience in Paris will undoubtedly motivate her to come back stronger in future competitions.
