Roope Salminen says in the Aikalisä podcast that life is much easier now.
Actor-presenter Roope Salminen says in what will be published on Friday, April 12 Time-outin the episode of the podcast that he recently went through the comprehensive ADHD studies. In the research, parents and other relatives who have spent time with Salminen in their everyday life were interviewed.
– There was no ambiguity about the diagnosis, I was diagnosed with ADHD then.
– It was a really neutral thing for me. This explains a lot. I’m really helpless and it’s hard for me to control my own actions. Oh man, that was great to hear. That I can improve in some of these things.
Salminen says that he got a working ADHD medication quickly. He reveals that he always takes the medicine before the Aikalisä podcast recordings, but now he came to the studio “raw, so to speak”, without the medicine.
Salminen tells the visiting psychiatric specialist in the episode Asko Niemelä, that recording is now much more challenging than usual. Niemelä is the doctor who diagnosed Salminen’s ADHD.
The most shocking observation for Salmi was how helpless he had been in everyday life.
– I hadn’t seen it. I’ve thrown a lot of flak about how I don’t even know how a washing machine works. I hadn’t realized how much I had been and still am dependent on other people’s help. And how sickly difficult normal things have been for me.
– Other people have always been there to help and support in practical matters. It’s enough that I’m a funny guy, Salminen sums up his previous daily management.
Salminen has talked openly about his alcoholism in public, which he now sees was also an escape from responsibility.
– I’ve avoided responsibility my whole life using different means, it was really shocking to notice. It can’t be true how much burden I’ve caused to the people around me, how much trouble I’ve caused just by being there.
– It caused a big crisis and a big shame, it was an eye-opener once and for all, Salminen describes his feelings after receiving the diagnosis.
Salminen describes that his everyday life has become much easier thanks to the right kind of medication. This has also awakened a lot of “what if” thoughts in him.
– When I got the medication, it feels like life started a little like from the beginning. Would I have enjoyed something years, decades more if I had been on medication?
