The House of Representatives is concerned about the rising infection rates. In a debate about the corona pandemic, several MPs said they fear that the number of infections here will rise to such an extent that other countries will ban Dutch holidaymakers.
The House wonders whether the cabinet has not been too enthusiastic about the relaxation, while not everyone has been fully vaccinated yet. MP Jan Paternotte of D66 said he was shocked by the steep upward curve of the last few days.
“With this pace, we will be red on the map of the European Center for Disease Control ECDC this coming Sunday,” Paternotte said. In that case, it is likely that other countries will impose stricter conditions for Dutch holidaymakers, such as a quarantine obligation or even an entry ban.
Wait two weeks
That must be prevented, also said PVV MP Fleur Agema, because the hard-working Dutch are ready for a well-deserved holiday.
As a result of the rapid increase in the number of infections, outgoing minister De Jonge has asked the OMT to emergency advice asked. Yesterday he already announced that people will soon after their last shot two weeks have to wait before they are allowed access to places and events where they can no longer keep a meter and a half away, such as clubs and discotheques.
dolls dancing
Many MPs think that things have gone wrong there lately. Many young people in particular have opted for a shot with Janssen, and immediately afterwards plunged into the nightlife, while they were not yet fully protected.
“From dancing with Janssen to dancing with the dolls”, PvdA MP Attje Kuiken called it. She said she wants to avoid making the same mistakes as last year. Then it turned out that the cabinet also relaxed too quickly in the summer and a new lockdown followed.
Most MPs are not immediately afraid of the latter, because it is not likely that the number of hospital admissions will also rise sharply. After all, many people have already been vaccinated.
Tampered with QR codes
Most infections are among young people who have not yet had an injection. Parties such as the CDA and the SP pointed out that although these young people do not end up in hospital quickly, they can become quite ill and may also develop long-term complaints and lung covid.
According to SP MP Maarten Hijink, it now appears that testing for access “doesn’t work”. QR codes can be tampered with and there is also a lot wrong with the test companies. According to Hijink, there are even companies that provide an admission ticket without a test having actually been done.
