Room does not want a corona pass for outdoor sports: ‘Was this really a serious proposal?’

The caretaker cabinet wants the corona admission ticket from roll out on Saturday. The introduction in September for the catering industry and theaters only received a narrow majority of the VVD, CDA, D66, PvdA and faction Den Haan.

Many parties are still struggling with the corona admission ticket, but a majority believes that using the proof is necessary to reduce the infections. Alternatives are even more drastic measures and the parties certainly do not want them.

Museums, gyms, terraces

For example, the corona pass will be mandatory from Saturday in museums, gyms and on the terraces of catering establishments. The fact that adult spectators and athletes can only gain access to the football field and the athletics track with a valid corona ticket is going too far for a majority of the House. That measure therefore appears to be failing.

The Outbreak Management Team also advises not to ask for a corona pass for outdoor sports. The cabinet will respond to this tonight.

Difficult to maintain

VVD MP Aukje de Vries, who in principle supports the full package of measures, states that the proposed measure is difficult to enforce for outdoor sports. The CDA also has ‘great difficulty that the QR code must also be displayed on outdoor terraces and in particular outdoor sports’, said MP Joba van den Berg.

Van den Berg also questions more plans. The CDA member would prefer the cabinet to make more targeted policy – aimed, for example, at the four major cities, where relatively few people have been vaccinated.

The cabinet is today defending plans to reverse the increasing number of corona infections and hospital admissions. Hospital admissions are rising too fast. Today, the RIVM reported almost 10,000 infections. If it is up to the cabinet, a mask obligation will also apply in shops, supermarkets and contact professions from Saturday.

‘Society chased out’

Many opposition parties disapprove of the plans. PVV leader Wilders was already against the corona ticket and is therefore also against its expansion. “A large part of the Dutch will be locked up. If you don’t get tested three times a week, you can no longer exercise. People will be chased out of society.”

The SP believes that the cabinet is doing too much to repress and invests too little in informing people who still have doubts about a vaccination.
