Room asks again: stop untargeted gambling advertising

The House of Representatives has once again urged the cabinet to put an end to gambling advertisements. At the end of last year, the Chamber already adopted a similar motion but the then Minister for Legal Protection, Dekker, refused to implement it.

Since October, the online gambling market has been legalized and many parties have since been annoyed by the large number of “untargeted gambling advertisements for high-risk games”. In a new motion (with SP MP Van Nispen as the first signatory again) is now being asked to implement last year’s ruling as soon as possible.

‘Maximum effort’

The motion was passed by a large majority. The governing parties VVD and D66 and the opposition parties Forum for Democracy and the Van Haga group voted against.

Dekker’s successor Weerwind said last week that he wants to make maximum effort to meet the wishes of the House, but that there are some legal obstacles to a short-term ban.

Van Nispen believes that an advertising ban should be arranged before April. After the motion was adopted today, the SP MP said he wants a response from the cabinet within a week.
