We can barely keep up.” This mainly concerns people who have overdue maintenance on the roof, the roof that can no longer handle the amount of water, or the drains that no longer remove the water. He also receives phone calls about storm damage after storm Henk. “Sometimes we are standing in the street and then we see that it has also happened at other houses. Then we just ring the doorbell, we are there anyway.”
Johan Stabler from J&A Dak-Service from Vlissingen also notices that it is extremely busy. “I’m on holiday now, but I have already had at least 120 phone calls. People with a leak obviously don’t want to wait too long, so they call and want to be helped immediately. But that is not always possible because of the amount of work.” He sometimes has to disappoint people. “That sometimes even leads to arguments on the telephone.”
Peter van Beveren from Van Beveren Dakwerken in Zierikzee also notices that it is a lot busier than normal. He is also on holiday, but receives dozens of calls about leaks. “It looks like we are full until April,” he said.
But it is actually too busy now, De Roo notes. “I have the feeling that things have become a lot worse after New Year’s. People think at the end of the year: we will wait a while, but now they want to tackle it anyway. We are now receiving so many calls that I actually don’t I know more who I was on the phone with.”
It is not necessarily a positive thing for De Roo that there is now so much work to do. “The normal work is delayed because we can no longer do that due to the rain.” Stabler notices that too. “We are full until June. We are three months behind on the work.”
Van Beveren is also packed with requests. “It looks like we are full until April. If people come to us urgently, we also have to say no. We are only helping regular customers at the moment.”
