Accident on the Spree: The roof of a party boat collapsed, several people were injured. The exact circumstances are still unclear.
Nine people were injured in an accident on a party boat on the Spree in Berlin-Mitte. Four of them were seriously injured, the fire department announced in the evening. Five guests only suffered minor injuries in the incident. According to initial findings, the roof of the event boat had collapsed.
Initially, the fire department spoke of around 30 injured people. In total, around 120 people were said to have been partying on the boat. It was not immediately clear what kind of party group it was. The exact course of events and the cause of the accident are still to be clarified.
The “Bild” newspaper quoted an eyewitness as saying: “There were concerts on the boat. The roof collapsed, there were people on it, people underneath.”
The fire brigade was deployed in large numbers on the fishing island. The water itself and the shore were searched using a multi-purpose boat. However, no other people were found in the water.
According to the fire department, many people had to be examined and then cared for by the emergency services. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals. A rescue helicopter was also deployed.
