Roof Collapse at Rusunawa Marunda: Criticism of Jakarta Government Soars

Jakarta

Concrete roof Rusunawa Marunda blok C, North Jakarta, collapse. DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has been heavily criticized here and there.

Head of DKI Public Housing and Settlement Areas (PRKP) Office, Retno Sulistyaningrum, said that the collapsed building was no longer fit for habitation.

“It happened in Rusunawa Marunda August 30, at 21.10 WIB. The concrete deck on block C5 has collapsed. The location is around the back hall,” said Retno when contacted, Monday (4/9).

There were no victims in the incident where the roof of the flat collapsed. He said residents had begun transporting their goods in stages.

PSI Blames Housing Agency

Member of Commission D DPRD DKI Jakarta PSI faction August Hamonangan said that the roof collapse at the Marunda Rusunawa Flat was because the DKI People’s Housing and Settlement Area Agency (DPRKP) was not serious about maintaining the flat. August also brought up the 0 IDR house down payment program.

“This is a clear lack of seriousness by the DPRKP for the maintenance of flats. The construction and maintenance of flats should be a priority for the DPRKP instead of focusing on the 0 rupiah DP program,” said August in his statement, Tuesday (5/9/2023).

He asked the DKI DPRKP to immediately revitalize the unfit flats in Jakarta. He also asked residents living in unfit flats to be moved immediately.

“The DPRKP must immediately revitalize the building, also check other buildings that have the potential to collapse and injure their occupants. Not only revitalization, but the DPRKP needs to relocate residents whose buildings will be repaired by the service. This process must run well and smoothly,” he said.

August said the DPRKP also did not have priority programs in housing and settlements. He alluded to the CAP (Community Action Plan) and CIP (Collaborative Implementation Program) programs, which according to him had not been perfectly implemented.

“The implementation of the CAP and CIP programs is still not perfect, plus the DPRKP is busy with housing matters with a 0 rupiah down payment which can actually be considered a failure and is of little interest to DKI residents,” he said.

“Sometimes the CAP program in its implementation (CIP) even clashes and hinders the follow-up of community complaints, for example when residents complain that there are still a lot of standing waters so that it is necessary to widen the water canals immediately, the SDA Office staff often say that widening the water canals cannot be done properly. reasons related to the CAP – CIP program,” he added.
