Whether it’s about what’s on the menu, the style of play to be used, the coach staying on or simply scoring decisive goals. Cristiano Ronaldo’s influence has been huge since his return to Manchester United. “Similar to Messi at FC Barcelona,” says Geert Langendorff, football correspondent in England.
Despite Ronaldo being 36 years old and not having his most successful years at Juventus, there was no doubt among the fans: United brought their Messiah back to the old nest this summer.
And Ronaldo takes that role as savior very seriously. In his first five weeks he completely shaped the club in every area.
Long live ronaldo
Since the departure of manager Alex Ferguson in 2013, United have had eight lean years with zero league titles and one bad buy after another. Now, with Ronaldo, a player who matched the stature of the club was finally recruited. “Even if he hadn’t scored in his first games, that feeling among the fans would have been no different,” says Langendorff.
