The Portuguese Manchester United legend made strong statements against the club today, as well as his Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag, and even poked fun at his former teammate Wayne Rooney.
Ronaldo said this in statements to the English newspaper “The Sun” this evening, which “Kora Plus” reports later:
“I felt betrayed by the way Manchester United treated me. They made me the black sheep who is blamed for everything that is wrong with the club. I think I will be forced to leave.”
Ronaldo highlighted his relationship with former Manchester United manager Rangnick: “If you’re not a manager, how are you going to be a Manchester United manager? I’ve never heard of him.”
And Ronaldo went on to talk about his current coach, Erik Ten Hag: “I don’t respect him because he showed no respect for me. If you don’t respect me, I don’t respect you.”
Regarding former teammate Wayne Rooney’s attack on him lately, Ronaldo said: “I don’t know why he’s criticizing me so much, most likely because he ended his career while I was still playing at a high level. I won’t say I’m better than him because that’s true.”
“I never expected to see this support,” Ronaldo said of Liverpool fans’ support for him following the death of his son in recent months.
Ronaldo has indicated his anger at Manchester United officials when he was unable to attend the pre-season training camp due to his three-month-old daughter’s illness, describing his feeling at the time: “painful and mean”.
Ronaldo revealed the story of his return to United and his conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson: “I follow my heart. When Sir Alex Ferguson said it was impossible for me to go to Manchester City, I said yes.”
Ronaldo expressed his anger at the club’s lack of resources in the training center and the lack of advanced issues: “Development is zero, since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, there hasn’t been any revolution in the club, it hasn’t changed nothing”.
He continued: “I think the fans should know the truth, I want the best for the club, that’s why I came to Manchester United, but there are some internal issues that don’t help us to be at a high level like City, Liverpool and even Arsenal now, a club of this size must be at the forefront from a certain point of view”. In my opinion this unfortunately didn’t happen”.
And Ronaldo continued: “As Picasso said, you have to destroy it to rebuild, and if they want to start with me, that’s no problem for me, I love Manchester United, and I love the fans, I’m always on my side, but if they want do it differently, many, many things have to change.”
Ronaldo said: “Sir Alex Ferguson knows better than anyone that the club is not doing the way it deserves. He knows it and everyone knows it, and the people who don’t see it, and that’s because they don’t want to see it, are (blind) .”
Ronaldo moved on to talk about his family and his relationship with them: “My family is everything to me, and it has become more so after what we’ve been through this year.”
Ronaldo concluded his speech today by saying: “The fans are the most important thing in football. You play for them. They are always on my side. When I walk the streets, the fans come up to me and appreciate what I do for football The fans are everything to me. That’s why I have this dialogue, and I think it’s time to say what’s on my mind.”
