Ronaldo’s cannon saved Manchester United against Chelsea

It was Chelsea who created the most chances and had the most ball. But Manchester United, for whom the Swedish giant talent Anthony Elanga started, has Cristiano Ronaldo at the forefront.

That usually goes a long way. So too this evening.

Just a few minutes after Marcos Alonso volleyed 1-0 for the visitors, Ronaldo was released by Nemanja Matic, took the ball down and pushed it up the net past a chanceless Edouard Mendy in the Chelsea goal.

Chelsea then continued to press for a lead and victory goal, but no closer than a post hit from Reece James came.

The match ended 1-1, just like when the teams met in London last winter. Last season, neither team managed to score in 180 minutes, which means that the big clubs have now played a draw four Premier League matches in a row.

With the result, third-placed Chelsea have six and eight points respectively down to chasing London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham. Manchester United have five points up to fourth place, but have played two more matches (35) than the three teams closest above (33).
