Manchester United convincing performance to beat the sheriff with a score of 3-0 in the laga of Group E Europa League. Cristiano Ronaldo returns to score a goal.
The MU vs Sheriff duel was held at Old Trafford on Friday (10/28/2022) in the morning WIB. The Red Devils took a goal lead in the first half with Diogo Dalot.
Meanwhile, two more MU goals were born after the break. Marcus Rashford and Ronaldo scored consecutively to complete MU’s dominance.
Victory over the sheriff ensures Manchester United finish in the top two of the Europa League Group E standings. MU is in second place with 12 points, three points adrift of Real Sociedad while guaranteeing a place in the playoffs.
In the last match, Manchester United will face Sociedad to determine the group winner. United need a two-goal win to finish first and automatically qualify for the round of 16.
The course of the game
United controlled the game from the first minute. Numerous opportunities have been created. Antony’s shot from area D was caught by goalkeeper Maksym Koval, then Cristiano Ronaldo’s header flew just above the sheriff’s goal.
Another chance was created by MU after Antony’s push was taken up by Bruno Fernandes with a kick from the edge of the penalty area. However, the ball is still wide from the opponent’s goal post.
Not long after, a missed opportunity again MU. The collaboration of Victor Lindelof and Fernandes ended with a header that led to Ronaldo. Too bad the close range goal can still be saved by Koval.
MU’s stalemate was finally cleared before half-time. Diogo Dalot scored 1-0 in the 44th minute. On Christian Eriksen’s corner on the left wing, Dalot finds the ball with a header that manages to break through the sheriff’s net.
After the break, MU continued to dominate. Cristiano Ronaldo deflects then fires a right-footed shot into the top corner of the sheriff’s goal but the ball is still off target. After that Ronaldo broke into the opponent’s goal but was canceled for offside.
The second milestone that MU was waiting for is also born. In the 65th minute, Marcus Rashford changed the score to 2-0 for MU’s lead.
MU builds attacks from outside the penalty area. Short passes involving Eriksen and Scott McTominay were finished by Luke Shaw with a cross in the center of the area and then Rashford went home beating Koval.
MU’s efforts to create a third goal are still in vain. Rashford’s curling shot was saved by Koval, as was Garnacho’s shot.
At 81 ‘Cristiano Ronaldo finally scored! Bruno Fernandes’ cross from the right is Ronaldo’s header but Koval manages to block. Ronaldo immediately hits the rebound with a shot from close range, scoring the 3-0 for MU.
Six minutes later, MU nearly scored a fourth goal. A cross found Donny van de Beek, but his shot at the near post only nestles on the outside of the sheriff’s goal.
In injury time, MU’s opportunity was raw in Koval’s hands after he swept away a McTominay header from close range. The game is over, the score is 3-0 for the survival of the MU advantage.
