Ronaldo scores again: Portugal beats Lewandowski’s Poland

Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo continues to score reliably in the Nations League. With his third goal in the third game, the 39-year-old captain led Portugal’s national team to an unchallenged 3-1 (2-0) against Poland and thus also won the goalscoring duel with two-time world footballer Robert Lewandowski.

With the full score of nine points, the Portuguese took a big step towards the play-offs. On Tuesday (8:45 p.m./DAZN), Ronaldo’s team could make it into the next round against Scotland in Glasgow.

In Warsaw, Bernardo Silva (26th) gave the 2016 European champions the lead after a stormy start for the Poles. Ronaldo, who had hit the crossbar in the early stages, increased the score after a shot from Rafael Leao (37′) and left the pitch after a good hour. Jan Bednarek also scored an own goal (88th). Bayern Munich’s Joao Palhinha was missing from coach Roberto Martinez’s squad after being released from the first training session this week for personal reasons.

Lewandowski missed a great chance to score at the start of the second half (56th), Piotr Zielinski did better (78th). Nevertheless, the Poles urgently need points in the fourth game on Tuesday (8.45 p.m.) against Croatia in order to maintain their play-off chances.
