Cristiano Ronaldo look bad when addressed Morocco from Quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup. Instead Yassine Bounou it had been torn apart by him.
Ronaldo was a substitute when Portugal met Morocco at Doha’s Al Thumama Stadium on Saturday (12/10/2022) night WIB. Goncalo Ramos is highly regarded in attack because he managed to score a hat-trick against Switzerland in the round of 16.
However, Portugal troubled Morocco throughout the first half. None of the attacks could harm Bounou between the sticks.
Portugal’s goal was even conceded in the 42nd minute when Youssouf En-Nesyri headed in a cross from his team-mate. Down 0-1, Portugal made substitutions early in the second half.
Ronaldo was included to refine the forward line to replace Ruben Neves. The hope is that Ronaldo can show his winning mentality in decisive matches.
Unfortunately, Portugal’s hopes were not realized as Ronaldo performed poorly as he only touched the ball 10 times and released an attempt on goal, even then in the 90th minute and was pushed over by Yassine Bounou.
Portugal also lost 0-1 and were eliminated, while Ronaldo had to pursue his dream of winning the World Cup. Bounou, who was beaten by Ronaldo in La Liga, has suddenly become a wall for him.
Ronaldo met Bounou twice in Laliga when he was still playing for Real Madrid. At the time Bounou was playing for Girona and Ronaldo scored four goals in Madrid’s 6-3 win on 18 March 2018, which was his last season at the club.
That match was Ronaldo’s revenge after failing to score in the first home match against Girona as Real lost 1-2.
But, last weekend, it was my turn Yassine Bounou which made Ronaldo look lethargic and go home faster.
