Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Bader Al-Mutawa, the Kuwait national team player, sent a message to Cristiano Ronaldo, after the latter broke the record for appearances in international matches.
After his participation in the last match between Portugal and Liechtenstein, the Portuguese star became the player who played the most international matches with 197 matches, with only one match difference from Al-Mutawa.
The “Kuwaiti Blue” player was keen to congratulate Ronaldo, saying on his Twitter account: “I am very honored to represent my country in 196 international matches. I am grateful for the privilege of being the most participating men’s player.”
Badr Al-Mutawa added, “I am happy that the record will now be transferred to Cristiano Ronaldo. You are truly a legend and role model for every football player. I wish you good luck and many more, and amazing achievements.”
The 38-year-old Portuguese star responded to Al-Mutawa’s tweet, saying, “Thank you for your kind words. It is a great honor to be the most participating player among men. All the best to you as well.”
Ronaldo is also considered the most scoring player for his country in international matches, as he has scored 120 goals, since his first participation in 2004.
