Cristiano Ronaldo is the first winner of the “Talent that Marks the World” award, a distinction of the League of clubs for Portuguese players and coaches “that shine” abroad.
“From record to record and always committed to continuing to make history. This is the incomparable mentality of Cristiano Ronaldo, who continues to elevate the talent from the Portuguese League around the world to the highest level, thus winning the first edition of the Talento que Mark the World”, reads a statement published this Friday on the official website of the League.
The body responsible for the professional championships explained that this new distinction “intends to highlight the vast contingent of players and coaches” who have passed through Leagues 1 and 2 and who now act or work abroad, in a vote promoted by the League’s ambassadors of clubs.
Back at Manchester United, after the Italians left Juventus, in September, Ronaldo scored three goals in the English league and two in the Champions League.
Serving Portugal, the striker scored twice against the Republic of Ireland and became the player with the most goals scored in the service of a national team, surpassing the 109 goals of the Iranian Ali Daei, totaling 115 hits by the team of “quinas”.
“I thank Liga Portugal for this distinction, which greatly honors me and makes me proud. This award, however, would not be possible without the help of my teammates, to whom I also thank and with whom I share this trophy”, said Ronaldo, in statements released by the body.
