The eyes turned to the Manchester United training center with excitement. Because this Monday Cristiano Ronaldo was supposed to start the Red Devils’ pre-season. Whether the 37-year-old would actually do that was open until the end. Finally, English media reported unanimously over the weekend that CR7 had asked their club for release.

At 10 a.m. Central European Time there was certainty: Ronaldo stayed away from United training. So does Ronaldo want to force his departure from United with a training strike? At least not officially: According to ‘The Athletic’, the Portuguese is out “family reasons” withdrawn from training. United have accepted this, they say.
Four-eye discussion as a solution?
According to the specialist portal, those responsible for the Red Devils have not yet lost faith in being able to keep Ronaldo. In the management level of the club there is still the attitude that the star striker is not for sale.
United hope a one-on-one talk with Erik ten Hag could persuade CR7 to stay. The new coach wants to have a private chat with every player in his squad before the season starts. The conversation with Ronaldo has not yet taken place.
Rangnick wanted CR7 sale
One official who, by the way, would have little objection to a Ronaldo departure is Ralf Rangnick. According to ‘The Athletic’, the former caretaker manager was already pushing for the Portuguese to be sold in January. Even then, the 64-year-old recognized the tendency for CR7 to leave the club early. However, Rangnick was not able to assert himself – and will not do so again. At the end of May he resigned from all offices in Manchester.
