For the first time since Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United, CR7 and Sir Alex Ferguson have discussed their relationship.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Sir Alex Ferguson found themselves at Manchester United in a special interview which sees the two retrace their time together at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese, who returned to United at the start of the season after leaving them more than a decade earlier, has experienced several seasons rich in trophies under Ferguson and never hid his appreciation of the Scotsman.
In a joint interview conducted by the official website of the Red Devils club, the duo opened up about how their relationship has grown over the years and how their mutual admiration has grown.
Ronaldo and Ferguson on… Cristiano’s arrival at Man Utd
Ronaldo : “Imagine that you are 18 years old, that you come from Sporting Lisbon, that you play with the stars – with [Ryan] Giggs, [Paul] Scholes, Roy Keane et [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer. I was a little nervous, but he helped me a lot.
“I didn’t speak English when I arrived. It was hard. They helped me a lot especially him [Sir Alex]. It was not always easy to understand him with his accent. When you want, you always learn And that’s what I did. “
“I appreciate him a lot, I always say that for me he is like a father to me in football. So I have to appreciate everything he did for me, for my family, especially for the club… he did a fantastic job. “
Ferguson : “With any boy from another country, 18, I think he was the youngest we’ve ever done that, with Cristiano his mother stayed long enough. I think having the family around you when we make a movement like this, when we come to another country, it’s really important.
“I know his mother was used to moving from Madeira to Lisbon when he was a child. But coming to another country where the language is different is a big step for a young person. “
