Ronald de Boer is proud of his former teammate Mikel Arteta. He thinks the Spanish manager is in the right place at Arsenal. Arteta recently made a classic mistake with De Boer.

“He received quite a lot of criticism in the beginning,” De Boer tells NOS. “It says something about the club’s position that they have given him time. They are doing great. Last year they almost won the Premier League and now they are fighting for the championship again. That patience has been rewarded.” The former Ajax player continues: “He simply knows a lot about the game and dares to use young boys. I think what he does is very clever.”
After the match against Manchester City-Arsenal (0-0), De Boer received a message from the Arsenal manager. Arteta texted why his friend had not visited him around the match. He had heard from someone that the former international was present at the match. But that person made the classic mistake of mistaking Frank de Boer for his twin brother Ronald. Frank was present at the match that day as an analyst.

De Boer then quickly texted him back. “No, boy, that was my brother. Do you really think I wouldn’t greet you? And I also told you that you should stand a little higher on the field,” he ended jokingly.
De Boer and Arteta have known each other for over twenty years. The Spaniard joined Glasgow Rangers in the summer of 2002. As a Spanish-speaking player, De Boer took care of the young Arteta and took him under his wing.
