In his TV role, actor Ron Ely played a university graduate who had grown tired of people and decided to return to the African jungle where he had grown up.
As Ely said in his interviews, he shot himself, without stuntmen, even the difficult scenes, with tigers, chimpanzees and other wild animals.
His daughter Kirsten Casale Ely announced his death at his home in California in a post on Instagram.
“He was an actor, writer, coach, family man and leader. Wherever he went, he created a powerful wave of positive influence. I haven’t seen in anyone else the impact he had on the world – there was something truly magical about him.”

His Tragic Story – 1980’s Beauty Pageant Romance and 2019 Tragedy
According to ERT, his then 62-year-old wife, Valerie Lundeen Ely, was stabbed to death by their 30-year-old son, Cameron Ely, who was then shot by police and succumbed to his injuries.
Ely met Valerie, then Miss Florida and a candidate for the title of Miss America, as a pageant presenter. They married in 1984 and had three children.
The nightmare that began for Ely is perhaps summed up in the words of District Attorney John Burris: “If his son didn’t have a gun, why did they shoot him? The fact that the police suspected that he was involved in some criminal activity with his mother does not justify the death.”
He became inextricably linked with the role of Tarzan and for the rest of his career made brief appearances in television and film before retiring in 2001 to devote himself to his family.
