Romy shows her best side at the beginning: she welcomes Nienke with open arms and is open to her advice. It turns out that Romy still smokes and has no plans to quit. When Nienke gently suggests that it is difficult for her to see that Romy is smoking with a big belly, Romy indicates that things are already going much better than before. “I only smoke 8 to 9 a day. Before this it was much more.”
When Nienke asks her if she still plans to stop, she says that there is little point anymore because she is going to give birth in four weeks. Still, Romy is very happy with the way Nienke addresses her. “I really like that Nienke responded so calmly.” When, not much later, Nienke comes up with a laughter course to relieve Romy of the stress before giving birth, she responds enthusiastically. To Nienke’s great surprise, both Romy and her mother and stepfather participate without complaint.
Yet it soon turns out that Romy also has a completely different side. For example, she indicates that the father is absolutely not allowed to be present during the pushing because she knows that she will become very ‘aggressive’. When Nienke tries to get Romy to stop smoking after the birth, she is downright hostile. The person who comes to provide information is barked at and not a nice word comes out of her mouth. When Nienke comes up with a sweet and well-intentioned surprise at the end of the episode – namely a nail polish course – everyone can’t help but laugh.
