Rómulo Sanjurjo leaves his position as director of the Culture area of A Coruña and is replaced by Bettina Kolhaas | Radio Coruña

The Department of Culture of the City Council of A Coruña once again undergoes a new change. After the remodeling that it underwent five months ago, with the restructuring of the socialist executive at the decision of the mayor Inés Rey herself, and after her head of service was dismissed a month ago, in the last hours we knew that Rómulo Sanjurjo, director of the Culture area, has resigned from his position. The cultural promoter and music producer Bettina Kolhaas, will be the new head of the Culture area. This morning, Mayor Inés Rey had to explain this surprising announcement and limited herself to saying that it was a personal decision by Sanjurjo and she denies that there is any kind of crisis in the area of Culture.

A resignation for which the local government will have to give explanations in the next plenary session. PP, Marea and BNG have already announced that they will take the matter to the plenary session in May.

The PP describes the situation as “chaos”, of “beheading” and criticizes the mismanagement of the area since the arrival of Inés Rey to the mayor’s office.

The Atlantic Tide has regretted that the Culture area is once again headless, especially at such a difficult time for the economic crisis sector. In a statement, he has advanced that he will ask in the next plenary session about the reasons for this resignation and the measures that the mayor plans to adopt as the person in charge of the area.

The BNG considers that this is a new example of the lack of cultural project of the socialist executive, “unha concellaría en crise permanent”.

The appointment of Bettina Kolhaas as director of the Culture area will be approved at the next governing board.

Kolhaas is a woman with extensive experience in cultural management. Right now he directs the Teatro Colón. He has been in charge of the Metropolitan Forum for years and led the Culture area of the Barrié Foundation. She has also been head of communication for the Galician Symphony Orchestra and professor of Adiovisual Communication at the University of Santiago de Compostela. She has also been a music producer for events such as the Starlite in Marbella.

During this mandate, Fiestas was under the mandate of Diana Cabanas and Juan Ignacio Borrego. After assuming the mayor of the IMCE, it is her chief of staff, Gonzalo Castro, who has joined the Council of the body.
