Rómulo Gallegos International Novel Prize Jury will be in session until the end of October

The jury made up of the triad Laura Antillano (Venezuela), Vicente Battista (Argentina) and Pablo Montoya (Colombia), winner of the previous edition of the contest, will be responsible for meeting until the end of October to announce the winners of the XX edition of the Rómulo Gallegos International Novel Prize.

The information was provided by the president of the Rómulo Gallegos Center for Latin American Studies (Celarg), Roberto Hernández Montoya, who highlighted that the award ceremony will be held in November during the celebration of the XVI Venezuelan International Book Fair Filven 2020.

Hernández commented that after a meeting held with the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, in which the impacts that the COVID-19 pandemic had on literature contests and essays were analyzed, an adjustment was established in the original schedule.

The president of Celarg guarantees the participation of all the novels that have been submitted before the closing of the call, in accordance with what was originally established in the rules.

184 works from seventeen countries participate in this edition of the contest: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, United States, England, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela .

However, there are some works that have not arrived due to a transfer problem, according to the monitoring that the management team of the awards carry out through social networks and mail established for that purpose.
At the same time, sending the guides of the postal office has been very useful, since it helps to locate the works sent, which were still going through various instances of the postal services.

Essay contests and poetry

The president of Celarg, Roberto Hernández reported that the jury of the Mariano Picón Salas International Essay Prize, in its eighth edition, made up of Venezuelan academics Consuelo González Díaz and Vladimir Acosta, and the Cuban intellectual Abel Prieto will issue the verdict of the contest to end of august.

He mentioned that 54 works from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay and Venezuela are evaluated in this competition.

Regarding the VI edition of the Víctor Valera Mora International Poetry Prize and the XXII edition of the Fernando Paz Castillo National Poetry Prize, Roberto Hernández emphasizes that the process of summoning and receiving works is still open. However, the schedule will be adjusted at the end of the call, deliberations, verdict and time of award.

Finally, the president of Fundación Celarg refers that the activities related to the verdict, awarding and scheduling of talks, of the four contests called, are subject to the measures established by the Venezuelan State to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this sense, it is planned to carry out activities by teleconference and electronic channels. In addition, the poetry contests will receive the works in digital format.
