This weekend, spectators got to see Beckham play for Inter Miami’s reserve team, Fort Lauderdale. But it was not 46-year-old David who was on the field. Romeo Beckham, 19, is the son of the midfield legend and started his professional career this weekend in the 2-2 match against South Georgia in the American third division.
“Happy to have made my professional debut. Full focus on the next match,” Romeo Beckham wrote on Instagram.
In addition to being a football professional now, Romeo has one more thing in common with his father. At his side in this weekend’s match was Harvey Neville, son of Phil Neville who played with David Beckham at Manchester United and who coaches Inter Miami’s A-team, which is also owned by Beckham.
Maybe a Beckham dynasty is about to take shape, but there is still a long way to go for the really big football families. Last week, for example, Daniel Maldini became the third in the Maldini family to play in the Champions League for Milan. Grandpa Cesare won what is now called the Champions League once while dad Paolo did it all five times.
