Florence –
Inter Milan can breathe a sigh of relief ahead of Leg II Italian Cup semi-final. Suspension Romelu Lukaku unplugged so it can play against Juventus.
The first leg duel at the Allianz Stadium two weeks ago ended in chaos when a commotion broke out between the players. This was the aftermath of Lukaku’s celebration after breaking into Juventus’ goal with a penalty and making the final score 1-1.
The Belgian striker was considered to have taken a provocative action when he put his index finger in his mouth. Apart from that, Lukaku was also seen saying a few words to Juventus supporters.
As a result, Lukaku received a second yellow card, which means he will miss the duel at the Giuseppe Meazza, Thursday (27/4/2023) early morning WIB tomorrow.
Suddenly the punishment made the Inter camp furious and they appealed to the Italian appeals court, which led to a rejection. This heated up the situation even more because Inter considered FIGC to be unfair.
After days of debate over whether or not Lukaku’s second yellow card was appropriate, FIGC President Gabriel Gravina decided to lift the suspension.
It was as part of the FIGC’s actions to combat racism on the gridiron. As a result, Lukaku can appear in the second leg later because his actions are considered not a violation, but rather resistance to the actions of the supporters who are not commendable.
“The principle of combating all forms of racial abuse is an essential element of the sports system,” the statement said FIGC.
