Romelu Lukaku, Belgium striker, paid a nice tribute to Eden Hazard on Tuesday in a video, a few hours after the announcement of the former Real Madrid player’s retirement.
They shared twelve years of the life of the Belgian selection. Romelu Lukaku (30 years old) paid a vibrant tribute to Eden Hazard (32 years old), who announced his retirement on Tuesday. The striker and winger were part of the golden generation of the Red Devils where Hazard started two years earlier than Lukaku (2008 versus 2010) before retiring for the first time (internationally) last December. He hung up his crampons for good ten months later.
“You were an example to us all”
In a video published on the Belgian selection’s social networks, “Big Rom” greeted his former partner.
“Here is Eden, we heard the news this morning,” begins the AS Roma player. “I would like to thank you as a teammate for many years. We grew up together in the national team, I also played with your brother (Thorgan, Editor’s note) in the selection and with the young people. For me, it was a pleasure to play with Toit for so many years. You brought us so many moments of pleasure, goals and assists.”
“For me, you marked the history of Belgian football and of football as a whole,” continues the new Belgian captain.
“You gave people a lot of pleasure, you made them happy. I would like to congratulate you on your great career, you were an example for all of us from start to finish. You are a family man and a professional football player. high level. Congratulations on your career. I wish only the best for you, your family, good health and lots of luck.”
Lukaku, Hazard composed with Thibaut Courtois, Kevin De Bruyne, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Dries Mertens among others one of the most beautiful Belgian teams in history. This generation signed the best run of the Red Devils in the World Cup in 2018 (3rd) but retains the bitter taste of not having won a big title together, before the fall in the first round of the last World Cup in Qatar.
