Belgium will start the preliminary rounds of the World Cup in 2022 next week, but that will probably have to be without goalgetter Romelu Lukaku. After positive corona cases from defender De Vrij and midfielder Vecino, not only has Saturday’s league game against Sassuolo been postponed, no Inter player is allowed to leave the country for the time being.
The following tests will take place at Inter on Monday. There is therefore a small chance that Lukaku will still make it to the national selection.
Otherwise, national coach Roberto Martinez will have to puzzle. The Red Devils will play against Wales on Wednesday in Leuven, on Saturday 27 March in Prague against the Czech Republic and on Tuesday 30 March in Leuven against Belarus.
In November, Lukaku scored 2 more times in the Nations League against Denmark (4-2). He prepared a goal from Youri Tielemans against England (2-0).

Romelu Lukaku is by no means the only absentee from the Red Devils. The national team is struggling with a lot of injuries. Eden Hazard (Real Madrid), Dennis Praet (Leicester), Axel Witsel (Borussia Dortmund) and Dedryck Boyata (Hertha Berlin) are all in the rag basket.
