Romelu Lukaku could return to Manchester with City as part of Pep Guardiola’s £ 200m reform

Manchester City are set to invest £ 200million in improving their squad across multiple regions at the end of the season – with Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku goal.

Pep Guardiola’s side are strong in the running for the title this season, four points behind leaders Manchester United in a postponed game before they face Crystal Palace on Sunday.

But City face many longstanding dilemmas with the team on areas such as defense and front line, where Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho and Eric Garcia all managed to get out of Etihad for free this summer.

According to reports, Pep Guardiola is slated to spend £ 200million on Man City this year.

according to The telegraph, Guardiola and his team will target a new striker, left-back and defensive midfielder in their mega-financial overhaul of their squad.

One problem area is the long-term replacement for striker Sergio Aguero, who has been struggling with injury problems since the beginning of the season.

The Argentine striker is City’s all-time top scorer but the 32-year-old striker’s contract with Aguero expires within six months, who has made no decision about his future.

But City are said to be targeting a new striker, even if Aguero stays in Etihad after this summer.

One of the transit areas is said to be a long-term successor to Sergio Aguero, who may be leaving in July

The same report alleged Inter Milan’s Lukaku, Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland and Benfica striker Darwin Nunez were targeted as Aguero’s long-term successors.

With Etihad’s move to FC Lukaku, the Belgian striker would return to Manchester after two seasons at Manchester United between 2017 and 2019.

The 27-year-old moved from Everton to Old Trafford in the summer of 2017 with a £ 90m transfer but fought for minutes under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite scoring 42 goals in 96 games across all competitions.

Benfica striker Darwin Nunez is also a potential attacker choice for Guardiola’s side this summer

Lukaku then moved to Italian giant Inter Milan in the summer of 2019 for £ 72 million. The striker scored 51 goals in 73 games for the Nerazzurri.

Midfielder Fernandinho, who has played more than 300 games for City since arriving in 2013, could leave on the same terms as Aguero this summer. City is aiming for a long-term successor in the midfield.

Due to Benjamin Mendy’s fitness problems, City doesn’t have a top-class choice for the left-back either. Oleksandr Zinchenko and Nathan Aki are assigned the role, but are not viewed as long-term options for the position.

City can also buy a replacement for Fernandinho (left) and an upgrade for Benjamin Mendy (right).

Last November, Guardiola’s decision to extend his contract for two years to 2023 was reinforced by mounting speculation about his future.

The Spanish coach has won two Premier League titles as well as three Carabao Cup and FA Cup 2019 titles since arriving at the Etihad Stadium in 2016.

City has also been linked to the transfer of the Barcelona captain and world star Lionel Messi for the past six months. The contract with the Argentine Camp Nou expires this year.
