Rome, thousands in procession for Palestine. Israel’s flag torn – Il Tempo

Tensions at the pro-Palestine march in Rome when the demonstrators passed in front of the FAO headquarters. A protester climbed the external fence and tore down the Israeli flag. There were tensions with the Digos men positioned in the street to protect the flag. Then the flag was recovered by the police and returned to the FAO. The procession started from Porta San Paolo shouting “Free Palestine!” and attracted thousands of people to demand a stop to the bombing of Gaza. Movement organizations, social centers, collectives and the community of young Palestinians promote it. The demonstration is «to say no to the genocide and massacre of the Palestinian people. The Palestinian people also have the right to peace and security like all the other peoples of the world”, explained Yousef Salman, president of the Palestinian Community of Rome. «Hamas – added Salman, answering reporters’ questions – is part of the Palestinian people and in Israel today extremists are in charge, one hundred thousand times worse than Hamas. There is an occupation that has lasted for more than 75 years, we can’t take it anymore. There are more than a thousand UN resolutions that have never been respected or implemented. The international community was thus incapable and powerless to force Israel to respect its resolutions and international legality.”
