Romano updates West Ham fans on Wan-Bassika

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano said West Ham had made no headway regarding their hopes of signing Man United ace Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Wan-Bassika joined Manchester United for £50million three years ago after making a real name for himself in the Premier League, but he is yet to become the signing the club have been hoping for.

It was suggested in the summer that West Ham were willing to bring him to the London Stadium on loan or on a more permanent basis, as David Moyes wanted a little more coverage for that area of the pitch.

However, Wan-Bissaka ultimately stayed with Man United, after new manager Erik Ten Hag was unable to sign a replacement, but that appears to be no longer in the former Ajax boss’s plans.

Fabrizio Romano says West Ham did indeed hold talks to sign him, but hit a wall: “There have been no major developments yet on Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future.

“Wolves, Crystal Palace and West Ham held talks to seek information on the terms of the deal in December but it is still an early stage.

“Manchester United will let him go if they get a good offer and if they find a good back-up option for Dalot; at the moment, it hasn’t happened yet.

But according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, West Ham are not expected to make a move for Wan-Bassika in the January window and should instead be looking to sign him at the end of the season.

“Will he go to West Ham? Maybe not for me.” McManus said recently CalcioInsider it’s Ben Wild.

“West Ham need defenders, especially centre-backs. Wan-Bissaka has good tackling on him, but if you sign him, you sign him to be a winger.

“He’s at his best close to the opponent’s box, so I’m not sure how much help he will give to the defence.

“It’s going to cost some money too, so if they’re looking at it, I think they should look to spend a lot elsewhere.

“If you still want a move in the summer, then now’s the time to do it.”
