Manchester United reportedly started approaching alternative candidates, after Frenkie de Jong can’t be picked up yet. But Fabrizio Romano broke the guess.
This summer, de Jong has been widely linked with Man United, which is considered to need a midfielder with characteristics like himself.
Speculation and rumors appeared one after another. There were even claims that Man United and Barca had reached an agreement regarding the price of Frenkie de Jong.

However, so far the Dutch midfielder is still officially a member of the Barcelona squad. The situation reportedly made the Red Devils start looking for other alternatives.
A number of names have emerged, including Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes and PSV defensive midfielder Ibrahim Sangare, who are said to be on the Red Devils’ radar.
Says Fabrizio Romano about Manchester United’s interest in Frenkie de Jong
Fabrizio Romano, an Italian journalist who often leaks information about player transfers, actually gives different information from rumors. According to Romano, Frenkie de Jong is still the top priority Manchester United.
“At the moment there is absolutely no movement towards Paredes or Sangare. There is a lot of linking, but so far they are in no way close to joining Manchester United.”
“I was told that they (United) are still focused on trying to change the situation Frenkie de Jongand if that fails they will look for players of the same type as him,” Romano told GiveMeSport.
In this summer’s transfer market, Man United have signed left-back Tyrell Malacia, creative midfielder Christian Eriksen and centre-back Lisandro Martinez.
