The song that will represent Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Liverpool was chosen, on Saturday, in the final of the National Selection of Eurovision 2023. The public voted and decided as Theodor Andrei, with the song “DGT (Off and on)” to represent our country at Eurovision 2023.
Theodor Andrei, with the song “DGT (Off and on)” won the Final of the Eurovision 2023 National Selection, organized on Saturday evening by TVR, and will represent Romania in Liverpool in May.
In total, at the national selection of February 11, 2023, over 36,500 votes were cast by telephone and online.
Theodor Andrei, Andreea D Folklor Orchestra, Andrei Duţu, Aledaida, Amia received the most votes in the Eurovision 2023 National Selection Final.
Theodor Andrei, “DGT (Off and on)” represents Romania at Eurovision 2023
Theodor Andrei has composed over 100 songs. In 2022, he received the Myosotis Award for the best creation of a singer-songwriter, for the song “Artist” (music and lyrics by Theodor Andrei) from the album “FRAGIL”.
He also holds the Grand Trophy of the “Mihaela Runceanu” 2022 Festival and the Grand Trophy of the “Alexandria Pop Fest” 2022 Festival, according to TVR.
Eurovision 2023 final in Liverpool
The 2023 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) will take place in Great Britain, which will organize the contest on behalf of Ukraine, due to the war that broke out on the territory of this country. The event will take place at the Liverpool Arena and will have two semi-finals and the grand final.
The semi-finals will take place on May 9 and 11, and the grand final – on May 13. The representative of Romania will compete in the second semi-final.
The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is the most important international music competition, organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) – the largest European association of public broadcasters.
The ESC has been held every year since 1956. The show is one of the longest-running and most-watched television programs in the world and is broadcast in Europe as well as in Australia, Asia and the United States.
Romanian Television is the organizer of the National Selection and participates in the European competition since 1993.
Romania’s best performances at this competition were: twice third place (Luminiţa Anghel & Sistem – Kiev, 2005; Paula Seling and Ovi – Oslo, 2010) and once fourth place (Mihai Trăistariu – Athens, 2006) ).
