Romania’s Ministry of Agriculture will distribute €200/ha of climate compensation – 2024-08-26 11:23:25

All institutions under the ministry are committed to verifying farmers’ declarations so that payment is made by October 15

The ordinance that brings the money for climatic ones benefits to farmers, has already been written in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) and the document only needs to be filled in with the final number of hectares and the amounts to be paid, the Agrarian Minister of Romania Florin Barbou. He pointed out that so far the drought-affected hectares are 2.2 million autumn and spring crops.

The amount of compensation is 200 euros per hectare in case of 100% disaster, proportional to the percentage entered in the protocol. “What is new is that we have changed the order and clarified that all farmers will receive money equally. That is, if they have 100% damage, they will receive 200 euros/acre, if they have 50%, they will receive 100 euros/acre,” the Minister of Agriculture also pointed out. The formula by which the damage will be calculated was also published some time ago. It is based on this year’s production compared to yields per hectare in the previous 5 years. In the calculation, the highest and lowest results are removed, and the resulting average yield is used to calculate the damage in this year’s extremely low yields.

Florin Barbu announced today, Monday – August 26, in the program Agrostrategia on the Romanian TVR 1, that the whole process of ascertaining and verifying the areas is underway, so that by October 15 the payment per hectare will be made.

The Minister of Agriculture informed that the disaster area for spring crops is about 1.8 million hectares and about 390,000 hectares for autumn crops.

“Last week I had a video conference with the institution that deals with disaster reports, we are talking about the Directorate of Agriculture. According to their data, the affected areas are almost 2.2 million hectares in total. Farmers declare all areas, whether they are pastures, permanent crops and others, and until September 15 the commissions have a deadline to draw up these disaster protocols. The deadline will certainly be met because we have involved all subordinate institutions in the country from the Agricultural Payments and Intervention Agency (APIA), the National Land Reclamation Agency (ANIF) to the Rural Investment Financing Agency (AFIR) and the District Directorates of agriculture (YES). And it is unprecedented in Romania that in the same fiscal year, we are talking about October 15, are paid the compensations for drought,” said Florin Barbu, quoted by agrointel.ro.

The emergency ordinance will be approved as soon as the Ministry of Agriculture has finished collecting the protocols.
