Rareș Bogdan threatens to start a food crisis if Romania is not accepted into Schengen. The liberal made a vehement speech in the plenary session of the European Parliament at the debate dedicated to the accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the Schengen area.
I tried to explain to those who are unfairly keeping Romania away from Schengen. I arrived after two speeches that talked about corruption in Romania, about infrastructures, about proposed sanctions for the way in which Romania was talked about. With the exception of the two, the rest gave speeches of appreciation and stated that it is Romania’s right to join Schengen because of the way it has evolved from the point of view of the rule of law and how it has supported Ukraine.
I have tried to explain that it is unfair to behave in this way and to show the danger that a deeply European people could act emotionally. Nobody can play with Romania.
What I saw today in Strasbourg gives me hope. Throughout history, we have provided added value to Europe. It is necessary to reaffirm our identity at the European level, “Rareș Bogdan told Realitatea PLUS on Wednesday evening.
