Romanian tourists do not tip at the hotel. Most take shower gel and soap with them and do not eat food from the minibar

Romanian tourists forget their clothes, sunglasses, keys, chargers or even mobile phones in hotel rooms. Most of them take consumable cosmetics with them, such as shower gel, soap, do not leave the bed made and do not consume food from the minibar, according to a survey made by the online hotel platform Travelminit.ro. Also, 48% of those surveyed claim that they never leave a tip in the room for the cleaning staff, while 40% of them said that they leave depending on how satisfied they were with the services, News.ro reports.

In the context in which hotels, boarding houses and other accommodation units will be crowded in the next period, the online hotel platform Travelminit.ro has conducted an extensive opinion poll for tourists and hoteliers, and its results set clear directions for expectations this season.

According to the survey conducted by Travelminit.ro, when it comes to choosing an accommodation unit for the holidays, tourists take into account the following factors: price (voted by 79% of respondents), level of cleanliness (also chosen by 78% of respondents) and room facilities (for which 53% of respondents voted). Among the criteria that influence their decision to choose a hotel or a guesthouse are also: hotel facilities, location, staff, restaurant and parking space.

As for the facilities they want to find in the room they have booked, the balcony (79% of the votes), the towels (78% of the votes), the air conditioning (77% of the votes) and the hotel cosmetics (62% of the votes) are in the top of the tourists’ favorites. Among the facilities they appreciate are a bathrobe and slippers, a kettle, a refrigerator, a hairdryer, a TV and an iron. These details often make a difference in the eyes of tourists, being facilities in which hoteliers can invest to attract more customers, but also to make their pricing strategy.

“Also, 48% of respondents say they never tip the room for cleaning staff, while 40% said they leave depending on how satisfied they were with the service.. At the same time, 73% of the tourists participating in the survey never received a better room for free at the booked accommodation unit. Depending on the availability, especially in the off-season periods, tourists can request a room upgrade, a practice not very common in Romania, but which could contribute to long-term customer loyalty “, the platform’s data show.

Regarding the additional cost caused by the damages created by the guests, they claim that it was a minimum: under 500 lei (40% of the votes) and under 1,000 lei (29% of the votes), a sign that the tourists respect the rules of the units and does not cause major damage.

“Another mention is related to their general behavior during the stay: most take with them consumable cosmetics (shower gel, soap, etc.), but do not leave the bed made and do not consume food from the minibar,” say representatives of the platform.

Another interesting aspect has to do with beautiful gestures which tourists do when they are satisfied with an accommodation unit. Most write positive reviews for the hotel or guesthouse where they were accommodated, but some go even further: tip, offer flowers to reception staff or buy chocolates for the team.

How about things often forgotten by tourists in the room, hoteliers mentioned the following: clothes, sunglasses, keys, chargers or even mobile phones. Most of the time, they come back for the important ones (phones or chargers), but when they are easy to replace, they leave them behind.

Despite the price increases announced by all operators in the tourism industry, Romanians want to fully enjoy the summer season, as evidenced by the growing number of reservations for the summer months.

“Although we are in the middle of the summer season, we still have availability for accommodation from all over Romania, including the seaside, the most sought after summer destination. The moment also coincides with the granting of holiday vouchers for 2022, a measure that will help their beneficiaries to enjoy affordable stays. It is also worth mentioning that those who still have unused vouchers from 2019 and 2020 can use them until the end of June to pay in full or an advance on their stay in the country. At the same time, Travelminit.ro started the summer season with numerous campaigns and promotions, so we expect a busy summer and an increased number of reservations “, says Rita Szilveszter, online marketing expert Travelminit.ro.

Despite the announced announcements for this season, tourists want to travel in the country and enjoy a summer stay.

According to the survey, 48.3% of them have already booked accommodation for this summer, while 51.7% prefer to wait and see the available offers.

Recently, the holiday cards for 2022 have started to be loaded, an action that will have a great impact on the tourism market, but also among tourists who will be able to enjoy holidays at affordable rates, thanks to this financial incentive supported by the state. .

Of course, hoteliers also continue to announce available seats at their accommodation units and even prepare the most attractive packages possible.

According to the survey, 42.2% of hoteliers have an occupancy rate below 30% for the summer, 27.3% have reached an occupancy rate of 50%, 14.4% are at an occupancy rate of 80%, while 16% have jumped 80% occupancy rate, an ideal percentage.
