Four police chiefs in Romania’s Constanta County have been dismissed following an investigation requested by the Interior Ministry into a crash in which a 19-year-old driver killed two people and injured three others after taking drugs, Agerpress reports, BTA reported.
Ministry spokesman Eduard Ionescu specified that the deputy director of the Constanța District Police, the chief of the Constanța Road Service, the chief of the Mangalia City Police and the chief of the Vama Veke Police Service were dismissed.
He added that “aspects of a criminal nature” were established in relation to three police officers who participated in the procedures of checking, controlling and taking legal measures against the driver who caused the fatal accident.
Two youths died and three were injured on Saturday morning after a 19-year-old driver plowed into a group of pedestrians walking on the road in the area of the village of Doi Mai, Constanta County. After the accident, the driver fled the scene, but was caught soon after by the police, who found that he had consumed three types of drugs.
According to the Romanian media, hours before the tragedy, the young man was detained by the police, who found drugs in his car during an inspection. He was then released, having been tested only for alcohol use, but not for drug use.
