Several town halls are implementing the option that the tax code provided back in 2016.

Several town halls in Romania apply this provision, including that of Alba Iulia.
The City Hall of Alba Iulia announced this week the opening of the transparency procedure for decision-making to approve the levels applicable in 2025 for taxable values, local taxes and fees, other taxes, special taxes and fines.
The document on overtaxation, in the form proposed by the initiator Gabriel Codru Plesha, mayor of the municipality of Alba Iulia, provides for increases in the tax on agricultural land or buildings and land located in urban areas, if it is found that their owners do not take care of:
- For agricultural land that has not been used for 2 consecutive years, the local council can increase the land tax by up to 500%, starting from the third year, under the conditions determined by a decision of the local council.
- The local council can increase building tax and land tax by up to 500% for derelict buildings and land located in the inner city.
- The criteria for inclusion in the category of abandoned buildings and grounds are adopted by a decision of the local council.
- The buildings and grounds that fall within the scope of the normative act are determined by a decision of the local council on identification elements according to the street nomenclature.
