Romania threatens the legal basis of the EU, together with Poland. The Constitutional Court led by Dorneanu, for the attention of the entire European Union

The European press is dedicating more and more articles to the situation in Romania after the Constitutional Court led by Valer Dorneanu announced on Thursday that it does not recognize the primacy of European law over domestic law.

After the Austrian public radio ORF and the Luxembourgish RTL wrote that Romania is becoming, along with Poland, a problem for the European Union, it was the turn of the German, Swiss and Belgian press to address the subject.

Until now, no high-ranking official in Romania has spoken on the subject. CCR is led by President Valer Dorneanu, former PSD MP.

Thus, the influence of the publication Handelsblatt headlines that “The primacy of European law is not recognized by the Romanian Constitutional Court”. German journalists describe the dispute and point out that the fight is anti-corruption.

And NTV news television writes that “as in the case of Poland, there was a dispute between the EU and Romania about the priority of Community law over national law. The Romanian Constitutional Court does not want to recognize the primacy of EU law, while the Union deplores the ineffectiveness of the fight against corruption.

publication Stern addresses the subject, pointing out that “the dispute between Bucharest and Brussels has as its stake the corruption files of the dignitaries”. Stern writes about the CCR decision and shows, in context, that the fight against corruption in Romania has reached a stalemate.

Swiss financial publication Cash recalls the CCR decision and writes that “a dispute arises between Romania and the EU over the primacy of European legislation over national ones”.

In turn, the Belgian publication The last hour shows that the RCC does not recognize the decision of the EU Court of Justice and writes that the fight against corruption in Romania is stagnating.

Context. The whole dispute started with CCR decisions on anti-corruption legislation. The CJEU ruled last week that CCR rulings violate European law, and Romanian judges can violate them without fear of reprisals.

However, the Romanian Constitutional Court de facto rejected the decision of the EU Court of Justice and stated on Thursday, in a press release, that this decision can be respected only after a possible revision of the Constitution.
