Moments later, a recording with the participation of Roman Protasiewicz was published on the Żołtyje Sliwa channel on the Telegram website. The 26-year-old tells him that he is cooperating with investigators and is giving evidence about the organization of the riots in Minsk.
– Hello, my name is Roman Protasiewicz. Yesterday I was detained at the airport in Minsk. Currently, I am in the 1st detention center of the city of Minsk. I can assure you that I have no health problems, including my heart, or any other organs. The behavior of the officers is as correct and legal as possible – says the detained activist.
The recording was shared on Twitter by Franek Wiaczorka, associate of Swiatłana Cichanouska. In his opinion, the film proves that Roman Protasiewicz was beaten and forced to make such a statement.
The Belarusian authorities often publish recordings in which the arrested persons “plead guilty”, complain that they have understood their mistakes.
This was the case with Cichanouska. The leader of the Belarusian opposition before leaving the country she was forced to read the summons to her supporters to halt the protests.
Arrest of Roman Protasiewicz. What will be the consequences for Belarus?
Roman Protasiewicz is a Belarusian activist and former editor of the opposition channel NEXTA. On Sunday, he was detained by the Belarusian authorities in Minsk. The Athens-Vilnius plane on which he was flying landed unplanned at the airport in that city.
Western countries are convinced that the Belarusian authorities have forced the landing with bomb threats and the pick-up of a military fighter. The actions of Belarus were condemned by many governments, including Poland, accusing the authorities in Minsk of violating international law, piracy, “state terrorism” and “hijacking” the plane, and demanded that the circumstances of this event be clarified and the international community reacted decisively.
Minsk claims that the cause of the emergency landing was an anonymous information about the bomb signed by “Hamas soldiers”, the fighter took off “for help”, and the fact that Protasiewicz was on board was a coincidence.
Banning flights through EU airspace for Belarusian airlines and preventing them from accessing EU airports, as well as another list of sanctions against representatives of the Belarusian regime – these are the proposals discussed at the Monday summit of Community leaders.
